This ancient pre-Columbian design with a modernist twist, was originally crafted by William Spratling between 1935-45, and are features of this vintage sterling silver openwork Taxco bracelet, circa 1940s.
The articulated mid-century bracelet is a book piece, appearing in "Mexican Silver" by Penny C. Morrill, and consists of six sterling silver panels with a pattern depicting pre-Hispanic mesoamerican glyphs.
It has a tongue in groove clasp and measures approximately ¾ of an inch wide by 6&1/2 inches in length (excluding clasp), weighs 38.5 grams, and is marked “Plata” and “Taxco” with the artist’s initial of “E”, along with “Sterling” and “Mexico”.
