Antique Victorian Hairwork Brooch Mourning Pin Memento Mori
A swirl of light brown hair in a half Prince of Wales plume, is featured in this small antique hairwork brooch, circa 1880s.
The petite mourning or “memento mori” pin consists of a decorative gold over brass frame with repousse surface, and swirl of hair beneath a square of glass, along with a twisted gold thread and remains of two seed pearls, representing tears.
* Please note that the gold plating remains primarily on the back of the pin, with the front surface of the frame exhibiting an antique brass finish.
The small brooch measures approximately 1&1/8 inches wide by 7/8 of an inch high, has a tube hinge and c-catch, and weighs 5.4 grams.
