Vintage Martha Sleeper Bakelite Brooch Football Art Deco Novelty Chatelaine Pin
Sports fans will appreciate this vintage Martha Sleeper Bakelite and wood chatelaine brooch with football shoes, cheering horn, and carved bakelite football, circa 1930s.
The Art Deco era brooch a.k.a.“sports jewelry" is hand carved and attributed to Martha Sleeper. It consists of a pair of football shoes complete with tiny embedded metal cleats, a cheerleader's bull horn with brass handle and painted letter "V" for victory in colors of pastel blue and red, and a carved bakelite football with a resin wash of burnt sienna.
The charms suspend from plastic celluloid coated cotton string, although much of the coating has worn away over the years. However, the string pieces remains strong with all charms intact.
