Vintage Big Bug Brooch Garrison NYC Novelty Insect Pin – Book Piece
A huge vintage bug brooch measuring just under 4 inches across, with outspread wings and purple reflective body, makes up this handsomely sized novelty insect pin by Garrison Products of NYC, circa 1940s.
The large Art Deco bug appears in the book “Amazing Gems” by Deanna Farneti Cera (see last pic). It has a different colorway and is identified as a Coleopteran, although misattributed to the designer Joseff.
It consists of an antiqued bronze toned metal, and is prong set with a large glass faceted cab in a purple amethyst color.
*Please note that there are a few missing spots on the underside coating of the glass cab as shown, and that it also appears to have had antennas at one time (which are missing from the book piece as well).
The brooch measures approximately 3&3/4 inches wide across the wingspan, by 2&1/2 inches high, weighs 48.3 grams, has a cartouche for “Garrison Prod’s. Inc.”, along with a stamp for “Garrison N.Y.C.”.
