Vintage Egyptian Revival Pharaoh Brooch – Sphinx of England
A colorfully enameled collar and a deadly cobra or asp, are featured on this ancient Egyptian Revival Pharaoh brooch, by Sphinx of England, circa 1960s.
The ancient Egyptian style brooch is well cast with polished gold plated base, with Pharaoh bust in profile, possibly depicting Cleopatra as a divine Pharaoh. It has kohl lined eyes, enameled asp at the head, false beard, and decorative collar in glazed colors of red, lapis blue, and turquoise faience.
*Please note that there is a small chip to the gold plating at the base, near the underside, as shown (see pic 2).
It measures approximately 1&1/2 inches wide at its widest point by 1&7/8 inches high, weighs 22.9 grams, and is signed “Sphinx” along with design number “A2217”.
