Vintage Guatemalan Sterling Earrings Mayan Bird Wedding Hoops
Charming little birds perch upon this pair of vintage Guatemalan wedding earrings of sterling silver and multi-hoop design, circa 1970s.
The articulated earrings are a melding of Mayan and Spanish Colonial design features, and are traditionally given as a wedding gift. They consist of three swinging hoops which represent the crescent moon and its power of fertility – and are topped with a small bird featuring hand engraved details.
The earrings measure approximately 7/8 of an inch wide by 1&1/4 inches from top of ear wire to base of hoop. They are stamped “.925” and weigh 4.6 grams combined.
