Large in size and naturalistic in design, is this vintage cicada or possibly a bee, insect brooch –made from a pressed celluloid plastic to simulate horn, circa 1930s/40s.
The Art Deco insect appears to be in flight and consists of a tea colored body, along with a semi-translucent gradiated ombre for the wings, and raised details along the surface.
It measures approximately 2 inches wide at its widest point, by 3&1/8 inches from wing tip to feet, has an adhesive applied pinback, and weighs 10.2 grams.
