A delicate mosquito appears to alight upon a shimmering pond – one made of ancient Roman glass, in this vintage sterling silver combination brooch and pendant, circa 1970s/80s.
The handwrought novelty brooch consists of sterling silver in the form of a flying winged insect, suspended over a stepped cut piece of genuine ancient Roman glass that is between 1,600 to 2000 years old – set in a sterling silver bezel along with decorative silver wires and spheres.
It measures approximately 2 inches wide at its widest point, from wing tip to wire frame, has both a pinback and bail for use as a pendant if desired, weighs 16.3 grams, and is marked “925”.
