Art Deco Brooch French Silver Marcasites & Red Enamel Pin
So very “Art Deco” is this elegant vintage French hallmarked marcasite and red enamel silver pin with geometric cut out design, circa late 20s, early 30s.
The chic looking brooch consists of an 800 or sterling silver with rectangular shape and cut out openwork design – and embedded with tiny faceted stones of genuine marcasites, and trimmed with a rich crimson red enameling along the corners.
The pin measures approximately 1&1/2 inches wide by ¾ of an inch high, has a trombone clasp, weighs 7.7 grams, and is stamped “Made in France” along with two very tiny hallmarks on opposite sides.
One is the Paris assay office mark and in the shape of the wild boar’s head, which would indicate a silver fineness of at least 800 or higher, while the other hallmark is lozenge shaped and is possibly the guarantee mark or “Minerve”, however, it is only partially impressed and difficult to decipher.
