Modernist Baltic Amber & Sterling Silver Pendant
A golden honey colored natural amber ‘rough’, set onto a sterling silver backing, is featured on this vintage Baltic amber pendant from Poland, with modernist / post modernist hallmarks.
The ancient fossilized tree resin has a semi-translucent cognac color with warm honey yellow tones, has natural organic matter and inclusions, and fluoresces under black light as shown (see pic 4).
It is framed onto a hand fabricated sterling silver setting with textured matte finish, cut-out bail, and hallmarks for “925”, an assay mark of “W” (Warsaw), and a woman’s head in profile, facing right.
There is an additional circular mark on the bail, of another head in profile (‘cecha dodatkowa’) dating the pendant from 1963 to 1986.
The pendant in its entirety measures approximately 2 inches, and weighs 14.6 grams.
