A finely carved ancient Mesoamerican diety is featured in this well crafted tribal style vintage brooch from Taxco, made of 980 silver and faux jade, circa 1940s.
The Art Deco statement brooch is hand wrought from 980 silver (a higher fineness than sterling which is 925), and features a hand carved pre-Columbian Olmec face or mask of what appears to be dyed calcite or aventurine, also known as 'Mexican Jade' with variegated green and olive coloring – and bezel set within a decorative round frame with silver scrollwork and beading.
The well sized pin measures approximately 2&1/8 inches in size, weighs 34.3 grams, and is marked “Taxco”, and “980”.
